HOW TO SUPPORT LOCAL IN MELBOURNE'S WEST

Our Top 6 Local Melbourne Businesses to Support (Westside Edition)

Now more than ever it’s important to keep the spark of Melbourne alive by supporting our local businesses. Like most of you, we love Melbourne’s rich culture filled with food, art and of course coffee. We asked our Sales Manager Nina and Office Manager Kacey to let us in on their fave hidden treasures in the Western suburbs.

Being a small business ourselves we know the importance of community so we wanted to share the love and encourage you all to check out these small but mighty businesses whether you're based in the West or just stopping by, be sure to visit these gems and show them some love!

Sun Theatre Yarraville

A trip to The Sun Theatre in Yarraville is the perfect evening out. The Sun originally opened in 1938 and was a single screen 1050 seat cinema – the most luxurious in the area. Closing its doors in the 60’s, the theatre became derelict and abandoned. Until the late 90’s, when it was lovingly restored to its former glory by new owners- much to the glee of local Melbourne film devotees.

Grab an iconic movie snack (and glass of vino) from the gorgeous candy bar and enjoy the movie!

Roccos Deli

A small hidden gem that has a strong following with those in the know- Rocco's has been serving the community since 1977. They have created an institution and have definitely mastered the art of making a sandwich.

There's no menu, simply choose a soft roll or crusty ciabatta from the baskets on the floor and hand it over to Louise McQueen to turn into a Rocco Roll. The best in the west!

Be sure to grab a homemade cannoli on the way out too.

Mr West

Hands down, Mr West is my favourite bar in the west. It is hugely obvious the founders, Caleb and Josh, know their booze and want to share their passion.

Each cocktail has been carefully crafted with intention, oozing self assurance onto the palettes of Footscray’s finest. The craft beer selection, 30+ taps, boasts variety and quality- there is a brew for everyone.

Head down to the bottle shop to browse their massive selection of specialty wines and spirits. The staff are knowledgeable and willing to guide you through the ranges so make the most of their expertise.

Plump Organics

Stop into Plump for all your organic produce needs. With an abundant range of locally sourced groceries including our fresh Chai blends, this boutique grocer will have you feeling nourished and fulfilled #supportlocal

Candied Bakery

Candied is a small yet lavish bakery by husband and wife duo, Orlando Artavilla and Toula Ploumidis. Their commitment to using only the best and freshest ingredients makes a huge impact to the superior quality of these bakery treats. This may also have something to do with the snaking line out the door on a busy weekend!

Their house made soft serve ice cream, offered in summer months, is made using local milk and natural ingredients- their flavour profiles unique and exciting. We highly recommend the candied pie, but be warned, it’s addictive!

POD

Fi Marment and Jess Haire have created a unique, homely and gorgeous space in suburban West Footscray. A lot of thought has been put into the deliciously sustainable food being served to you, each dish brimming with love. The evolving modular art display in the front window will always grab your attention and take you on a momentary journey.

A local institution, Pod is the kind of place where everyone knows your name. Enjoy a pot of our perfectly brewed chai or grab a canister to brew at home as you browse the eclectic retail space.

We hope you enjoy shopping and supporting local as much as we do. Stay tuned for future editions as we feature other small, local businesses around Melbourne's suburbs.
