We tried this whacky idea for a smoothie based on one of our customer reviews on our Super Spiced Cacao (SSC). And while it wasn't for everyone around the Calmer Kitchen, those who dug it.. Really dug it. The cardamom and ginger from the SSC add some interesting elements to the smoothie. This makes for a great get up and go style smoothie, with the natural energy boost from raw cacao.

Why is raw cacao a superfood you ask?

Here are just a few great reasons

  • It is loaded to the max with antioxidants
  • The enzymes are kept alive as the raw cacao is produced by cold pressing unroasted cocoa beans (no heat = raw)
  • Mood boosting properties from the increase in certain neurotransmitters
  • High doses of iron, magnesium and calcium


1 banana

Berries (we used 4 strawberries and  a handful of blueberries)

200ml soy or almond milk

I heaped teaspoon of Super spiced cacao

I teaspoon of chia seeds

1 heaped Tablespoon of shredded coconut


*for a richer chocolatey flavour add a heaped teaspoon of raw cacao

Throw all the ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth.

**Note that the SSC mix has small pieces of spices so we recommend using a quality blender  to get your smoothie extra smoooooth!
